New Toyota Glass Technology Cuts UV By 99%

New Toyota glass cuts UV by 99 percen ; Toyota’s upcoming Vitz will introduce a new glass technology that dramatically reduces ultraviolet (UV) penetration. The new model arrives on the market late this year.

The glass is used in the car’s front-door and can cut UV penetration by approximately 99%. The Vitz’s windshield also reduces UV penetration by 99%. Windshields that use laminated glass can be given 99% UV-reduction performance by inserting a UV-blocking film between two sheets of glass in the laminating process. However, car door windows generally use single-piece tempered glass often imbued with a UV-absorbing material to achieve approximately 89% UV protection. To boost the UV-reduction performance of the door glass, Toyota surfaced the interior side of the door-window glass with a high-performance UV-absorbing film.

Toyota says the combination door glass and windscreen technology provides sunburn protection equivalent to that of wearing gloves while driving. The new glass technology will also be used in other new cars launching next year.
