Prices announced for new Ford Focus

Prices announced for new Ford Focus ; Ford has announced prices for its new Focus medium sized family car, which goes on sale in March. The model range will start with the £15,995 "Edge" and, says Ford, introduce new technology to this class of car. This includes the company's Torque Vectoring Control, an electronic system which balances the distribution of engine torque between the driven wheels to maximise grip and stability.

DAB digital radio is also standard on all new Focus models, as is Bluetooth and USB connectivity, voice control, ESP and front, side and curtain airbags.

The entry-level Edge is powered by a 1.6-litre petrol engine with 104bhp, or for a premium of £1,000, a 94bhp turbodiesel unit. However, the most popular trim level is expected to be the "Zetec", which adds 16in alloy wheels, Quickclear front windscreen, leather steering wheel, front fog lamps and sports-style seats for a £1,000 premium over the Edge.

"Titanium" versions start with the 1.6-litre 123bhp petrol engine at £18,745 and include keyless start, dual climate control, Hill Start Assist, rain-sensing wipers, automatic headlights, cruise control and a Sony audio system.

Top-spec "Titanium X" models add heated part-leather seats, 17in alloys, Active Park Assist, Bi-Xenon headlights and electric folding mirrors, plus Ford's new 1.6-litre 148bhp EcoBoost petrol engine. Prices start at £21,245.

In total, engine options will be three 1.6-litre petrol units with either 104bhp, 123bhp and 148bhp outputs, or a choice of 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre diesels with 94bhp, 123bhp, 138bhp or 161bhp. Option packs include a Low Speed Safety System, Lane Keeping Aid and a Blind Sport Information System. All prices take into account VAT at 20 per cent.
