Nokia N8 TrainTimes App prices, Review

Nokia N8 TrainTimes App prices, Review : Ever been stuck out and about, wondering what time your last train home is? Or stuck on a platform wondering where your train has gone, and why it hasn’t arrived yet? With TrainTimes, there’s now no need to ring anybody, or spend possibly vital minutes waiting for websites to load. Join us after the break to find out if TrainTimes is any good…

TrainTimes is one of the most expensive apps on the Ovi Store, at £4. It also has the potential to be one of the most useful. If you frequently travel like us and end up wanting to stay out a bit later, perhaps catching the last train home, an app to tell you when all the train times are sounds invaluable.

TrainTimes
is the first app on the Ovi Store to be officially approved by National Rail Enquiries. Whether that makes it any better we’re not sure, but it may be a reason for the high asking price. It also means that all the details are provided by National Rail Enquiries, so they’re as accurate and up to date as you’re going to get when trains are running late or something has gone wrong.

One of the things we like about TrainTimes is that it’s incredibly easy to use. All of the menus are simple and intuitive to navigate, the text is big and easy to read, and the buttons are more than large enough for comfortable use.

Along with getting individual train times, you can also set up your regular commute. This is particularly useful for getting up to date train times – rather than planning a scheduled journey – as it informs you whether your train is running on time or not.

TrainTimes features an integrated journey planner. Simply type in your home station and your destination, and you’ll be told train times, the length of the journey, and if and where you have to change trains along the way.

The Live Departures and Arrivals section is the best bit of the app, however. It works in exactly the same way as a regular station notice board – telling you which trains are running on time, and which are late. With TrainTimes, though, you can check the live details on your Nokia N8, wherever you happen to be.

Overall, TrainTimes is an excellent app. Whether it’s worth £4 is another thing – for us it’s difficult to justify spending more than any other app, but there’s no doubt that TrainTimes would come in useful if you need to know which trains are running on time.
