HTC confirms no Sense UI 3.0 for current handsets

HTC confirms no Sense UI 3.0 for current handsets : The unveiling of the HTC Sensation dual-core smartphone drew a crowd at the Gadget Show Live in Birmingham this week, not least due to its use of the as-yet unreleased HTC Sense 3.0 UI.

A custom interface designed to sit on top of the underlying operating system, HTC Sense UI offers a prettier user experience and easier access to features such as social networking than the default Android user interface - and while the software has its detractors, many are attracted to HTC's creations specifically for Sense UI.

Sadly, HTC had some bad news for its customers today: the much-improved Sense UI 3.0 will be limited to its latest handsets, the Sensation, the Evo 3D, and the Flyer tablet - due, the company claims, to its requirement for high-end 3D hardware.

Responding to customer queries, an HTC spokesperson confirmed that existing Sense UI 2.0 devices would not be getting an upgrade. "Due to Sense's hardware requirements, only our newest devices will be able to support it," the unnamed HTC employee claimed over the company's official Twitter feed.

The news will come as a blow to those who have just purchased one of HTC's Desire S handsets, who have now discovered that their shiny new device is already behind the times.
