Indonesian Police wary of terror activity on May Day 2011 : The say they have prepared maximum security to anticipate any acts of terrorism during the celebration of Jakarta City PoliceInternational Labor Day (May Day). Jakarta City Police chief Ins. Gen. Sutarman said Saturday that the police were prepared and would be on top alert status during the celebration, which falls on Sunday.

The police have prepared 14,000 officers to secure safety during May Day activities. “We’ve prepared for the highest level of security to avoid any terrorists who might infiltrate the workers’ celebration,” he said, as quoted by kompas.com.

The police have also coordinated support from the Army and City Public Order Officers. “We have coordinated with the Banten City Police and West Java Police to secure the border areas,” Sutarman said.

Some of the strategic locations for May Day celebrations are the Presidential Palace, the House of Representatives complex, the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle and the Manpower and Transmigration Ministry office. Sutarman, however, believed that the terrorists would not harm middle-class and poor people.
