Renault Samsung, Hyundai Motor to recall 4 models

Renault Samsung, Hyundai Motor to recall 4 models : Hyundai Motor Co. (HYMLY, 005380.SE) and Renault Samsung Motors Corp. will recall faulty parts for four models, each equipped with defective rear reflectors or air bags, or both, the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs said Sunday.

Hyundai Motor, South Korea's top automaker by sales, found rear reflectors installed in the YF Sonata sedan and the Tucson sport-utility vehicle didn't meet safety standards and will offer free repair services to the owners of the two models from Wednesday, the ministry said in a statement.

Affected 19,211 YF Sonatas were produced between March 30 and May 17, 2010 and affected 8,050 Tucson SUVs were rolled out between Feb. 27 and April 17, 2010, the statement said.

Renault Samsung, the 80.1% owned South Korean unit of Renault S.A. (RNO.FR), will begin repairing SM3 subcompact cars with faulty rear reflectors and air bags and the SM5 midsize sedan with defective air bags repaired at its service centers starting Friday, it said.

Affected 103,899 SM3s were produced in two separate periods--April 23, 2009 to Aug. 10, 2010 for the subcompacts with faulty air bags and April 1, 2010 and Jan. 16, 2011 for the models with faulty rear reflectors. The affected 55,648 SM5s were manufactured from Aug. 12 to Oct. 29, 2010, it said.

If the owners of the four models already fixed the faulty parts on their own expenses, they will be refunded by the companies on request, said the statement.
