While the residents of ward one boycotted the polls after their booth was shifted to Valayapettai from Parithikudi, the residents of wards two and three observed the protest after their booth was changed to Parithikudi from Valayavattam, election officials said.
The protestors said they would exercise their franchise only in the booth placed in their locality, they added.
Election officer Gopal said the people had refused to take up his offer to arrange a bus to take them to the polling booth and back.
Mr. Gopal claimed the voters had not informed the officials about the inconvenience caused by shifting the polling booths and added the new booths were located in the same panchayat.
He said he doubted there may be some other reason behind their non-participation in the polls.
