According to Bloomberg, European telecom operators France Telecom SA, Telecom Italia SpA and Vodafone Group want companies like Google, Facebook and Apple, which provide several services that over-burden networks, to pay for the investments needed to expand networks to could cope with the data surge.
Last month, France Telecom Chief Executive Officer Stephane Richard had said that service providers were over-burdening his company's networks without any incentive not to do so, and urged that a system should be put in place that requires web-based service providers to pitch-in on network maintenance costs.
Companies like Google, Apple and Facebook offer a multitude of services to users that involve web search, video streaming, movie downloading and music streaming. As more and more people flock to the internet, it is become increasingly hard for telecom operators to keep up with the huge surge in data.
