Dade of birth of K. S. Chithra is July 27, 1963, Birth place of K. S. Chithra is Thiruvananthapuram called Trivandrum located in Kerala. Playback singer K. S. Chithra's father is late Krishnan Nair.

Chithra's wedding was with Vijayashankar, an engineer and businessman. K.S Chithra's daughter name is Nandana, who was born in the year 2002.

Basically K. S. Chithra was born in a musical family, chithra's great interest on music and her music talent was recognized by her father in the childhood, Playback Chithra first music teacher was her father Krishnan Nair.

Playback singer K. S. Chithra got extensive musical training in Carnatic music from Dr. K. Omanakutty, then she applied for National Talent Search Scholarship from the Central Government and she was selected in that, learned music in 1978–1984.

First K.S Chitra was introduced in a Malayalam movie as playback singing by M. G. Radhakrishnan in the year 1979 and the she got regular chances from Malayalam film industry, She is the singer for many Malayalam musicians including Raveendran.

K.S Chitra duets songs with K.J. Yesudas in Malayalam language and S.P. Balasubrahmanyam and K.S Chitra songs in Tamil are popular among the music lovers. K.S Chitra's debut in kollywood is under the guidance of Tamil music composer Ilaiyaraaja.

K.S Chitra's Poojaikketra poovithu song from Neethana Antha kuil movie is the first song in Tamil in Isai gani Illayaraja's music. Her knowledge of South Indian languages and Hindi helped her lot to sing the songs with originality and perfection in other languages too. Since then, K.S Chitra's melodious songs are favorites of tamil people. The combination of K.S Chitra with Illayaraja and A. R. Rahman won several National awards.
