Maxi Rodriguez, PREMIER LEAGUE NEWS may 10 2011

Maxi Rodriguez, PREMIER LEAGUE NEWS may 10 2011 : Maxi Rodriguez continued his astonishing recent goalscoring form to fire Liverpool to an emphatic 5-2 victory at Fulham with his second hat-trick in three games.

Maxi opened the scoring inside the first minute after Fulham keeper Mark Schwarzer failed to clear and doubled the lead from close range just six minutes later.

The match was over as a contest just past the quarter-hour when Dirk Kuyt's shot squirmed under Schwarzer at the near post.

Although Moussa Dembele pulled one back for Fulham after 57 minutes Maxi restored the three-goal cushion with a thumping 20-yard finish to complete his hat-trick and the excellent Luis Suarez finished smartly soon after to make it five.

Steve Sidwell hammered home a second consolation strike for Fulham in the closing stages.

The win takes Liverpool back above Spurs into fifth and keeps their faint hopes of Champions League qualification alive.

Jamie Carragher, playing his 666th game for Liverpool to move second on the club's all-time list, described the victory as "one of those days".

He said on Sky Sports 1: "We've been playing well of late, confidence is good and we've been looking forward to games. It was just one of those days for us.

"We played very well, with the start and the early goals.

"When you're winning everything's enjoyable. We just want to keep this run going.

"The fans will be happy, it's a late night for a lot of us but we've got to look forward to keeping it going against Tottenham (at home on Sunday)."

Carragher would not make any predictions about next season, despite the excellent run of form since Dalglish took over.

"Next season is a clean slate for everyone. "We hope we can take this form into next season but I won't make silly boasts or put expectations on ourselves."
