News Tragedy of mother who ran London Marathon for cancer charity

News Tragedy of mother who ran London Marathon for cancer charity : A woman who ran the London Marathon for a cancer charity believing she was clear of the disease has died two weeks later. Emma Horton, 35, had felt ill the week before the event, but did not know she was suffering from cancer again.

She raised £4,500 for Cancer Research by finishing the marathon on Sunday April 17 with her husband, Dave, and ten-year-old daughter, Libby, walking the last few miles at her side. Two weeks later she died in hospital in Birmingham. Her funeral is being held today.

Mr Horton, of Cutnall Green, near Droitwich in the West Midlands, said: ‘The week before, she hadn’t been well. She had hardly slept or even eaten, but we had put it down to stress.

‘It turns out it was cancer. I do not know how she dragged herself around the marathon. It’s unbelievable.’

By the end of the marathon, Mrs Horton could hardly walk, but she struggled on to record a time of seven hours and 50 minutes, entitling her to the finisher’s photograph awarded to those who run the event in less than eight hours.

Mr Horton said his wife of 15 years had put enormous pressure on herself to raise as much money as possible for Cancer Research. She first overcame skin cancer seven years ago and was finally given the all-clear 12 months ago.Read More....
