In Tunica County in Northwest Mississippi, where the Mississippi River has already surged to near historic record high levels, water was already six and seven feet deep in some homes.
As the high waters move south, the Mississippi River near Greenville surged past its major flood stage of 57 feet on Friday and is expected to reach and surpass its major flood stage of 50 feet in Vicksburg by Saturday afternoon and evening.
Further south, the Mississippi River is not expected to reach major flood stage until around Tuesday of next week.
The historic flooding is being brought on by excessive amounts of rainfall and flooding across the mid Mississippi River and Ohio River Valleys over the past several weeks.
The President has already declared 11 counties along the Mississippi River as disaster areas due to the flooding expected. This is in addition to the eleven other counties that are under a disaster declaration from the historic tornado outbreak.
