australian open golf ; Ogilvy favourite to take out PGA ; FOLLOWING victories in the SBS Championship in Hawaii and last Sunday’s Australian Open, Geoff Ogilvy has been installed as a $7 favourite to take out this week’s Australian PGA Championship at the Hyatt Regency Coolum. Ogilvy missed six cuts in one lean period and went six months without a top-10 finish before surging back into form at The Lakes.

“Last week turned it into a multiple win year, which is nice,” the 2008 Australian PGA champion said. “Considering how I played in the middle of the year, it’s probably not really fair that I won two tournaments, but that’s the way it goes.

“To be fair, I was playing really well at the last three or four tournaments in the US.

“I found some form and if there had been some big tournaments for me to play in the last couple of months, I was pretty happy with where my game was at.”

Ogilvy was in scintillating form at the Open, carding just two bogeys to go with his 17 birdies in the final three rounds.

He has edged out defending champion Robert Allenby as favourite for the season-ending event, and said winning the coveted Open and PGA titles in the same year would sit high in his list of career achievements. “The Australian Open’s the tournament that every Australian wants to win,” he said.
