Perhaps it was this mix that prompted British viewers to turn back to the competition – and virtually double last year’s audience. Fuelled by massive interest in X Factor act Jedward and boy band Blue, the show peaked at an astonishing 12.7million on BBC1 – thought to be the contest’s biggest UK audience in more than a decade.
